visionOS App of the Week: Oto’s Planet

Hey everyone, it’s Cosmo.

Oto’s Planet is a rare delight on visionOS. It’s a 30 minute animated movie with light interactive elements. It takes place on a miniature planet that you rotate to watch the story unfold. It’s quite a clever mechanic as it allows the viewer to observe any part of the planet while staying connected to the main story. I enjoyed getting to move my head around as if I was the cameraman. I wonder if this setup could work for other narratives?

The cast and crew of the production is quite long! While not exactly the same thing, this reminds me of how amazing it was that we gave individuals the ability to create 3D animation in VR with Mindshow back in 2016!

The story is entertaining but my only criticism is that it’s a bit long. At $7.99, it’s a good value. Try it out and let me know what you think!
