WTF is going on with Vision Pro?
Is a cheaper Apple Vision Pro really not coming out until 2027?
Hey everyone, it’s Cosmo. Well, this is awkward. Apple supposedly has 4 million budget headsets coming... but might make developers wait until 2027 to ship them. Ming-Chi Kuo just dropped a bombshell, suggesting we won't see a budget Vision Pro until 2027. That's quite the departure from Mark Gurman's earlier report of a $2000 headset coming in 2025.
The harsh reality? Even if Vision Pro 2 arrives in 2025 with its fancy M5 chip, without a more affordable model, the platform faces a classic chicken-and-egg problem. Developers need users to justify building apps, but users need apps to justify the hefty price tag.
For visionOS developers, this means some tough decisions ahead. The enterprise market looks increasingly like the safer bet – it's easier to justify a $3,500 headset when it's on the company card. Relying on consumer app revenue is unsustainable.
The real question isn't when a cheaper Vision Pro will arrive, but whether developers can weather the wait. Looking at the decade I've spent watching VR platforms evolve (and sometimes evaporate), I've learned that patience is a virtue – but it doesn't pay the bills.
If you're a visionOS developer, are you pivoting your strategy, or are you in it for the long haul? How are you taking this news?
What I Learned from 500 Days of Meditation
I celebrated 500 consecutive days of meditation a few days ago. It’s had a positive impact on my life, so I made a video about it! Taking a break from tech to share something personal felt nice. I hope you get something out of it!
